Is the Kia EV6’s whopping ₹60 lakh price tag justified?

Kia EV6

Kia offers only one electric car in India, the Kia EV6. This premium EV is priced at a staggering ₹60.97 lakh for the GT-Line model and ₹65.97 lakh for the GT-Line AWD model. It competes with EVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo C40 Recharge, and BMW iX1. The company brought only 100 units of the EV6 into the first batch in 2022.

The car is loaded with premium features like heated and ventilated seats, Kia Connect with 60+ features, a HUD with augmented reality and much more.

Kia EV6 Features and Specialties

Let’s talk about the range first. The EV6 can go about 708 km in a single charge. A 350kW charger would charge 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes. However, you won’t find these chargers in India. If you find a 50kW charger, then the same 10-80 percent charge will take 1 hour, 13 minutes.

The Kia EV6 caught everyone’s attention with its technology. There are two curved 12.3-inch displays, which are for the driver and the infotainment. This comes along with a beautiful-sounding 14-speaker Meridian sound system that gets 3D acoustic sound, a feature of luxury cars.

You also get ventilated and heated seats, heated steering, dual-zone climate control, ambient lights, a sunroof, and a 360-degree camera, from which you can also remotely monitor your car while it is charging. The acceleration of the car is super quick; it takes just 20 seconds to reach its maximum speed of 192 kmph. The EV6 is available in 5 colors:

  • Snow White Pearl
  • Aurora Black Pearl
  • Runway Red
  • Yacht Blue
  • Moonscape

How does it stand against its competitors?

The Kia EV6 has a number of competitors, like the Volvo C40 Recharge, BMW i4, Audi Q5, etc., but the standout ones are the Mercedes-Benz EQA and the BMW iX1

Both cars have a starting price of ₹ 66 lakh, but even at a lower price, the Kia EV6 competes strongly with them. In most cases, the EV6 even performs better than the other two.

  • In terms of range, the EV6 has a better range than both of these cars. It also boasts the best top speed among the three.
  • The EQA takes 7.15 hours for a 0–100% (11 kW AC) charge, and the iX1 also offers the same charging capacity of up to 11 kW.
  • The first full-electric BMW iX1 takes 5.6 seconds for 0-100 kmph acceleration, whereas it takes 8.6 seconds for the Mercedes-Benz EQA. The Kia EV6 takes 5.2 seconds to do the same.
  • The iX1 is offered in 4 colors, whereas the EQA and the EV6 give 5 color options.
  • All three cars boast a premium feel, but in terms of sheer looks, the BMW iX1 is a touch above the rest.

Conclusion

The only drawback for the EV6 is its high price with respect to the Indian market. Also, the interior design and layout of the car are not as attractive as the car’s exterior styling.

However, its limited availability adds to the worth of the coveted car. The stunning looks, ADAS system, pleasurable driving experience, and great acceleration and driving range make the Kia EV6 a worthy pick in this price range. It is expected that Kia will come up with more affordable electric cars for the Indian market soon.
